Instructional Level:

The instructional level of the program is Intermediate according to the definition of APTA. The level of this program assumes that participants have general familiarity with the topic, so the course focuses on increasing understanding and application.  Applicants will acquire general familiarity with the topic by reading the pre-course material sent upon confirmation of registration.


  Certification:
         Certification level 1 is received upon successful completion of the post-course tests.

After completing the initial and the advanced course, the participants will take the International Certification in Lymphedema Management Examination (ICLM Examination).  Participants who pass the ICLM Examination and submit a case study will become ICLM Certified.

 

  Educational Credit:

Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists will be awarded about 5 CEUs; evaluation may vary from State to State.

The credentialing committee of the New York Society of Continuing Education in Physical Therapy has awarded this program 4.68 CEUs.
    

  Course Objectives:

At the end of this course, participants will demonstrate the:
  1. Understanding of the anatomical and physiological concepts underlying lymphedema management.
  2. Ability to perform manual lymph drainage (mld) and multi-layered bandaging as described by the Leduc School.
  3. Understanding of the use of compression devices.
  4. Understanding of patients education (precautions, skin care etc.) 
  5. Ability to evaluate patients suffering from edema or lymphedema and to design and document comprehensive treatments.
  6. Ability to treat patients suffering from lymphedema and venous edema.
  7. Ability to answer most of the questions raised by patients.
  8. Ability to recognize when the intervention of the physician is necessary.

A group of rooms is held at the Stanford Guest House 2575 Sand Hill Road Menlo Park, CA 94025-7015 at the rate of $85.00 + tax.  Cut -off date: 09/21/08.  After this date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis.   • 10:45-12:00 noon: Theoretical approach of manual lymph drainage.  Research.
  • 1:00-2:30 pm:  L.E. manual lymph drainage lab.
  • 2:30-4:00 pm: Pathophysiology.
  • 4:00-5:00 pm: Questions.  Problem solving.

  Friday, October 17.

  • 8:00-10:30 am.  U.E. manual lymph drainage lab.
  • 10:45-12:00 noon: Research on compression devices and compression garments. Questions.
  • 1:00-4:00 pm: Evaluation and treatment of the L.E. lymphedema: inspection, palpation, precautions, skin care, diet, manual lymph drainage lab.   Exercises addressing the functional impairment generated by lymphedema of the L.E.   Measurement techniques.  Data analysis. Measurement for compression stockings.  Stocking fitting.
  • 4:00-4:45 pm: Questions .  Problem solving.
  • 5:00-6:30 pm: Progress in Lymphatic research.  Lymphedema and liposuction surgery by: Stanley G. Rockson, M.D.      
  • 6:30-7:00 pm: Questions.

   Saturday, October 18.

  • 8:00-9:00 am: Pathophysiology
  • 9:00-2:00 pm:  U.E. lymphedema treatment.  Post-mastectomy lymphedema management: assessment, precautions, skin care, diet, manual lymph drainage lab.  Exercises addressing the functional impairment generated by lymphedema of the U.E. Medicare requirements.   Coding.  Documentation issues.  Data analysis.  Measurement for compression sleeves.  Sleeve fitting. 
  • 2:00-4:00 pm:  Multi-layered bandaging.  Theory. Practice / L.E.
  • 4:00-5:00 pm: Lymphedema and liposuction surgery: pre and post-operative rehab. care..

Sunday, October 19. 

  • 8:00-10:00 am:.  U.E. multi-layered bandaging lab.
  • 10:15-12:00 noon: U.E. manual lymph drainage lab.  
  • 1:00-3:00 pm: L.E. multi-layered bandaging lab.
  • 3:15-4:00 pm: L.E. Manual lymph drainage lab.  
  • 4:00-5:00 pm: Questions.  Problem solving. Genital lymphedema. Breast lymphedema.

  Monday, October 20.

  • 8:00-11:00 am: Case study: L.E. lymphedema: manual lymph drainage  & multi-layered bandaging lab.  Exercises.
  • 11:00-12:00 noon: Manual lymph drainage trunk and face.  
  • 1:00-3:00 pm:  Case study:  U.E. lymphedema: manual lymph drainage  & multi-layered bandaging lab.  Exercises.
  • 3:15-4:00 pm: U.E. and L.E. manual lymph drainage.  Review.  Protocol of treatment. Self-treatment.
  • 4:00-5:00 pm: Problem solving.  Questions.

Tuesday, October 21.

  • 7:30-12:00 noon: Venous edema. Pathophysiology and physical treatment.  Manual techniques.  Exercises.  Precautions.  Life style.  Compression garments addressing the needs of venous insufficiency.  Case studies.
  • 1:00-3:15 pm: Lymphedema management: comprehensive review. Application in pediatrics.             Facial lymphedema: manual lymph drainage lab.                        .
  • 3:30-5:00 pm: Presentation of compression devices and compression garments by specialists.  Reimbursement issues.

 

  Note:  For lab practice, participants should bring appropriate clothing, such as shorts or bathing suits.

    Conference Fees:   

    Early Registration: $1,200.00 (Until 08/26/08)

   Regular Registration: $1,250.00 (Until 09/12/08)
   
    Late Registration: $1,300.00 ( After 09/12/08)

Fee includes: tuition, pre-course material, course handout, and lunch ticket.

Cancellations and requests for refund will be accepted until October 16, 2008 minus a $300.00 administrative fee.

There are three ways to register through the Registration page:
 
1. Online registration:   entails filling out the electronic form contained in the Registration page.  This method guarantees receipt of your information within 12 hours, however, a check or money order will still have to be received in order to complete your registration.

2. The second way to register for the course is by printing the manual fill-out form page, filling out the information requested on it and mailing it with a check or money order enclosed. 

3. The third alternative is meant for use if you are experiencing problems in registering through the other two methods,  we will be happy to accept your information in the form of a note (typed or clearly written) sent in with your payment. In order to register you we need the following information:
Your Name, Home Address, your Phone and Fax numbers, your Facility's Address, its Phone and Fax number. Your title: PT, OTR...and License number.

 

Note:

Cancellation & Refund policy.

Cancellations and requests for refund will be accepted until October 16, 2008 minus a $300.00 administrative fee.

Any notification of withdrawal or cancellation and any request for refund must be done in writing.

Payment of refunds is to be made within 30 days of determination of student withdrawal.

To satisfy the requirements of B.P.P.V.E. we must give you 2 examples:

Example 1: if you decide to cancel your registration on October 16, 2008 you would have to notify the school in writing.  Your request for refund would be applicable immediately.  Payment of refund would be made prior to November 16, 2008

Example 2: If you decide to cancel your application one month prior to the beginning of the course, you would have to notify the school in writing.  Your request for refund would be in effect immediately.  Payment of the refund would be made within 30 days of determination of your withdrawal.

 

Statement

The registration form is legally binding when signed by student and accepted by institution.

We do not participate in the Student Recovery Unit.
