Instructional Level:
This
course includes a home study and 4 days of practice and review
of the home study material.
The
instructional level of this program is intermediate according
to the APTA definition.
The
instructional level of this program
assumes that participants have general familiarity with
the topic, so the course focuses on increasing understanding
and application. Applicants
may acquire general familiarity with the topic by reading the
pre-course material sent upon confirmation of registration.
Certification:
Certification level 1 is received upon successful completion
of the post-course tests.
After completing the initial and the advanced courses, the
participants will be able to take the International
Certification in Lymphedema Management Examination (ICLM
Examination). Participants who pass the ICLM
Examination and submit a case study will become ICLM
Certified.
Educational Credit:
This program was awarded 4.68 CEUs by NYSCEPT.
Evaluation may vary from State to State.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants will demonstrate:
- Understanding of the anatomical and physiological
concepts underlying lymphedema management.
- The ability to perform manual lymph drainage (mld) and
multi-layered bandaging as described by the Leduc
School.
- Understanding of patients education (precautions, skin
care etc.) and use of compression devices.
- The ability to evaluate patients suffering from edema or
lymphedema and to design and document comprehensive
treatments.
- The ability to treat patients suffering from lymphedema
and venous edema.
- The ability to answer most of the questions raised by
patients.
- The ability to recognize when the intervention of the
physician is necessary.

applied to the lower extremity (L.E.).

Friday, April 23.
- 8:00-10:30am: Test 2: Theoretical approach
of physical treatment of lymphedema. Research.
Review of test 1. Q & A.
- Evaluation and treatment of the L.E. lymphedema:
inspection, measurements, palpation, precautions, skin
care, diet (research) manual lymph drainage lab.
Exercises addressing the functional impairment generated
by lymphedema of the L.E. Documentation.
Medicare requirements. Coding. Data analysis.
Compressions stockings: measurements and fitting.
- 10: 45-12.00noon: multi-layered bandaging:
practice on L.E.
- 1:00-3:30pm: multi-layered bandaging: practice on
U.E.
- 3:45-5:00pm: U.E. lymphedema treatment.
Post-mastectomy lymphedema management: assessment,
precautions, manual lymph drainage of the U.E. and
trunk lab.. Exercises addressing the functional
impairments generated by lymphedema of the U.E.
Compression sleeves: measurements and fitting.
- 5:00-6:00pm: Pathophysiology.
Saturday, April 24.
- 8:00-10:30am: Test 3 Physical treatment of
lymphedema. Review of test 2.Q & A.
Case study: Lab: manual lymph drainage and multi-layered
bandaging of the L.E.
- 10:45-12:00noon: Lab: manual lymph drainage
and multi-layered bandaging of the L.E.
- 1:00-3:00pm: Case study: Lab: manual lymph
drainage and multi-layered bandaging of the U.E .
- 3:15-4:00pm: Review: U.E. and L.E. manual lymph
drainage. Protocol of treatment.
- 4:00-5:00pm: Lymphedema management: application
to pediatrics. Cases studies.
- 5:00-6:00pm: Pathophysiology. Case studies.
Sunday, April 25.
- 8:00-10:30am: Review of test 3. Q & A.
Venous edema: Pathophysiology and physical treatment.
Manual techniques. Exercises.
- 10:15-12:00noon: Manual lymph drainage lab:
facial lymphedema. Theory: breast and genital lymphedema.
- 1:00-3:30pm: Case study: manual lymph
drainage and multi-layered bandaging of the U.E.. (lab)
- Conclusion: lymphedema management Leduc method. Q
& A.
Note: For lab practice, participants
should bring appropriate clothing, such as shorts and sports
bra or tank.

Fee includes: tuition, course handout, bandaging kit,
morning coffee and pastries and afternoon refreshment.
Cancellations and requests for refund will be accepted
until 04/22/10 minus a $300.00 administrative fee.
There are three ways to register through the Registration
page:
1. Online registration: entails filling out the
electronic form contained in the
Registration page. This method guarantees receipt of
your information within 12 hours, however, a check or money
order will still have to be received in order to complete your
registration.
2. The second way to register for the course is by printing
the manual
fill-out form page, filling out the information requested
on it and mailing it with a check or money order enclosed.
3. The third alternative is meant for use if you are
experiencing problems in registering through the other two
methods, we will be happy to accept your information in
the form of a note (typed or clearly written) sent in with
your payment. In order to register you we need the following
information:
Your Name, Home Address, your Phone and Fax numbers, your
Facility's Address, its Phone and Fax number. Your title: PT,
OTR...and License number.

Note:
Cancellation & Refund policy.
Cancellations and requests for refund will be
accepted until April 22, 2010 minus a $300.00 administrative
fee.
Any notification of withdrawal or cancellation
and any request for refund must be done in writing.
Payment of refunds is to be made within 30
days of determination of student withdrawal.
To satisfy the requirements of B.P.P.V.E. we
must give you 2 examples:
Example 1: if you decide to cancel your
registration on April 22, 2010 you would have to notify the
school in writing. Your request for refund would be
applicable immediately. Payment of refund would be made
prior to May 22, 2010
Example 2: If you decide to cancel your
application one month prior to the beginning of the course,
you would have to notify the school in writing. Your
request for refund would be in effect immediately.
Payment of the refund would be made within 30 days of
determination of your withdrawal.
Statement
The registration form is legally binding when
signed by student and accepted by institution.
