Instructional Level:
The instructional level of the program is advanced. According to the definition of
the APTA: This level assumes thorough
familiarity with the topic and focuses on
advanced techniques, recent advances, and future
directions.
Educational Credit:
This program was approved for 32.45
contact hours, 3.2 CEUs by the California
Physical Therapy Association (CPTA#11-498)
Certification:
Certification LEVEL 3 is received upon successful
completion of the post-course test.
Completion of the advanced course and the
basic course will enable the attendees to take the
International Certification in Lymphedema
Management Examination. (ICLM Examination).
Participants who pass the ICLM Examination and
submit a case study will be ICLM Certified.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, participants will
demonstrate the:
- Understanding of the anatomical and
physiological concepts underlying lymphedema
management.
- Understanding of the psychological issues
raised by cancer & lymphedema.
- Ability to perform manual lymph
drainage (mld) and multi-layered bandaging
as described by the Leduc School.
- Understanding of the use of compression
devices.
- Understanding of patients education
(precautions, skin care, Home Exercise
Program etc.)
- Ability to evaluate patients suffering
from lymphedema or edema, and to design and
document comprehensive treatments.
- Ability to treat various pathologies
showing symptoms of edema or lymphedema
using the techniques of lymphedema
management.
- Ability to answer most of the
questions raised by patients.
- Ability to recognize when the
intervention of the physician is necessary.
- Understanding of the most recent research
performed in the field of treatment
of lymphedema.
