  Instructional Level:

         The instructional level of the program is intermediate.  According to the definition of the APTA:  This level assumes that participants have general familiarity with the topic, so the course focuses on increasing understanding and application.        

  Course Objectives:

         At the end of this course, participants will demonstrate:

  1. Understanding of the anatomical and physiological concepts underlying lymphedema management.
  2. The ability to perform manual lymph drainage (mld) as described by Professor Leduc.
  3. The ability to perform multi-layered bandaging, Leduc Method..
  4. Understanding of patients education (precautions, skin care etc.) and use of compression devices.
  5. The ability to evaluate a lymphedema patient and a venous edema patient and to design  comprehensive treatments.
  6. The ability to document treatments appropriately.
  7. The ability to answer most of the questions raised by patients.
  8. Understanding the Consensus of the International Society of Lymphology: "The Diagnosis and Treatment of Peripheral Lymphedema"  (Consensus Document of the International Society of Lymphology Executive Committee )
  9. The ability to recognize when the intervention of the lymphologist is necessary.

    Conference Fees:

   Regular Registration: $1,250.00(Until 05/27/02)
   
    Late Registration: $1,300.00 ( after 05/27/02)

Fee includes tuition, pre-course material , course manual,  bandaging kit, lunch, afternoon refreshment break.

  Educational Credit:
         Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists will be awarded about  4.0 CEUs. 

 APTA Ohio has approved 41.0 CEUs and Ohio Occupational Therapy Board has approved 47.25 Contact Hours for this course.  Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice awarded 44.5 Contact Hours for the course.  "This course meets the basic criteria of the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for 4.7 CEUs."  The program has been awarded 4.35 CEUs by New York Society for Continuing Education in Physical therapy.  The New Mexico Physical Therapy Board as well as the New Mexico Board of Examiners for Occupational therapy have approved the course for 41 Contact Hours.

         Certification is received upon successful completion of post-course tests.

         Every day, the schedule will include:

  • 8:00 Orientation, Presentation on Day 1.

  • 3:00-3:15 p.m.      Break
  • 4:00-5:00p.m.      Problem Solving-Discussion

  Thursday June 27, 2002.

  • 8:00-10:30 a.m. Pre-course test.  Anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system.
  • 10:45-12 noon  Theoretical approach of manual lymph drainage (mld).  Research.
  • 1:00-2:30 p.m.  L.E. mld lab.
  • 2:30-4:00 p.m. Pathophysiology.
  • 4:00-5:00 p.m. Questions.  Problem solving.

  Friday, June 28.

  • 8:00-10:30 a.m.  U.E. mld lab.
  • 10:45-12 noon  mld trunk and face. Exercises.
  • 1:00-2:30 p.m. Evaluation and treatment of the L.E. lymphedema: observation, measurements, palpation, precautions, skin care, diet, manual lymph drainage lab.   Exercises addressing the functional impairments generated by lymphedema of the L.E.
  • 2:30-4:00p.m. Research on compression devices and compression garments.  Questions.
  • 5:00-8:00 p.m. Presentation of compression devices and compression garments by specialists.  Reimbursement issues.

  Saturday, June 29.

  • 8:00-12 noon, 1:00-2:00 p.m.  U.E. edema treatment.  Post-mastectomy lymphedema management: assessment, precautions, skin care, manual lymph drainage lab.  Exercises addressing the functional impairments generated by lymphedema of the U.E. Medicare requirements.   Codes.  Documentation issues.
  • 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Multi-layered bandaging .  Theory.
  • 4:00-5:00 p.m. Questions.  Problem solving.

   Sunday, June 30.

  • 8:00-11:00 a.m.  L.E. Multi-layered bandaging lab.
  • 11:00-12:00 noon L.E. manual lymph drainage.
  • 1:00-4:00 p.m. U.E. Multi-layered bandaging lab.
  • 4:00-5:00 p.m. Questions.  Problem solving.           

  Monday, July 1.

  • 8:00-12:00 noon L.E. Case study: manual lymph drainage lab. & multi-layered bandaging lab.
  • 1:00-4:00 p.m. U.E. Case study: manual lymph drainage lab & multi-layered bandaging lab.
  • 4:00-5:00 p.m. Questions.  Problem solving.

   Tuesday, July 2.

  • 8:00-11:00 a.m. Venous edema.  Pathophysiology and physical treatment.
  • 11:00- 12:00 noon   Questions.  Comprehensive review of lymphedema management.

Note:  Participants should bring appropriate clothing for lab practice, such as shorts or bathing suits.

Registration Information:

     Registration fee includes tuition, pre-course material,  course manual, bandaging kit, lunch, afternoon refreshment break.

Early registration will be accepted until:  May 1, 2002..
Regular registration will be accepted until:  May 27, 2002 after which late registration will apply.
Cancellations and requests for refunds will be accepted until May 27, 2002 and will involve an $60 administrative fee.

There are three ways to register through the Registration page:
 
1. Online registration:   entails filling out the electronic form contained in the Registration page.  This method guarantees receipt of your information within 12 hours, however, a check or money order will still have to be received in order to complete your registration.

2. The second way to register for the course is by printing the manual fill-out form page, filling out the information requested on it and mailing it with a check or money order enclosed. 

3. This third alternative is meant for use if you are experiencing problems in registering through the other two methods,  we will be happy to accept your information in the form of a note (typed or clearly written) sent in with your payment. In order to register you we need the following information:
